Dr Alexander Grant

Dr Grant has worked in the Newcastle area since 1984 after graduating from the University of Sydney and completing his Urological training in Sydney.

He has developed a special interest in Urological Oncology performing surgery for patients with complicated prostate, bladder, kidney and testicular cancers as well as routine general urological surgery. This includes open cystectomy for locally advanced bladder cancer, complex kidney cancers including involving inferior vena cava tumour thrombectomy, partial nephrectomy and retroperitoneal lymph node dissection for metastatic testis cancer. He also has an interest in reconstructive kidney surgery including pyeloplasty and correction of ureteric injuries.

Dr Grant currently assists in triaging of referrals for the John Hunter Hospital urology clinic and previously held positions as director of urology and kidney transplant surgeon within the multi-disciplinary transplant team. He is an active member of the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand, having been secretary of the society, conference convenor in 2004 and chairman of the NSW section in 2006.

Dr Grant has presented at international meetings and had publications in the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Surgery and British Journal of Urology. He has participated in several research projects whilst in Newcastle.
